Germany: 11/01/2015

Today we went hiking in a region called The Eifel with two other families from the neighborhood, both of which have girls in Paula’s class so I see them often.  We parked our car in a cute little town named Altenahr and set off for the trails.

We climbed up 3 different peaks and each one was a tough trek. One had a cross at the top of it, another had an interesting rock formation called “Devil’s hole”, and another had castle ruins.

The Eifel is one of the areas in Germany known for growing grapes and making wine.  Altenahr, as well as the other villages around, were clearly centered around wine.  I wanted to try some in a restaurant or shop, but with two tired and hungry kids in tow this was not really possible.  I hope to make it back there before returning home, or even return sometime in the future with family or friends.  It was definitely my kinda place.

One of my favorite parts of the hike was when we were headed back down and going through the forest.  It made me feel as if I was Harry Potter or Robin Hood.  The kids all agreed and thought it was pretty cool.

I also had two realizations on our day trip.  1. I now know why Lennart is always having “accidents” and getting hurt. He is currently walking around with a broken nose from last night.  The kid is WRECKLESS!! And 2.  I only want one kid.  My sister and I have a plan for this in which we both have one and live near each other so that even though they are cousins, they will be more like siblings. Kids are just way too fussy for me.

We got back home and ordered out for the first time in my nearly two weeks here, and I was able to eat CHICKEN!! If you know me you know this is huge.  I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and it tasted like heaven!  Along with some more Pommes frites 😏.

Tomorrow Lenny is out of school so it is just me and him all day…wish me luck!!!
